About Faile

The Serious Bit:

Faile is a communications student with a strong interest in feminism, politics, international relations, and emergency preparedness and response. She has a history of restlessness, and so has lived in many places and travels often, but claims North Carolina as her native state.

Faile has a diverse resume; she has served as a Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) with AmeriCorps, worked in print and radio media, and spent time as the weekend manager of a women’s shelter for victims of domestic violence and the homeless. Currently she is employed as a Special Operation Technician at a public health department in Wyoming. She hopes one day to work internationally as an aid worker.

She is a certified Emergency Medical Technician (Basic), and has had training in several disciplines, including crisis communications and public information, non-profit management, website and publication design, and emergency response.

The Not-So-Serious Bit:

Her interests are varied and many. She enjoys debates of all kinds (although she particularly likes to argue politics, women’s issues, and health education), reading, writing, theater (on stage and in the audience), reading, folk music, the occasional television show, reading, traveling, Sudoku for beginners, listening to NPR, and more reading.

She loves music – specifically Bon Iver and Chris Pureka (and avoids Barry Manilow like George Bush avoids the dictionary). She’s terrible at telling jokes, and often loses her train of thought during conversations. Faile loves to sing (but really, really can’t).

She tries not to take herself *too* seriously, although it’s been known to happen from time to time. Usually a reader will come along and help her snap out of it. Faile is not always right, and will sometimes accidentally digest her foot. She is happy to be corrected and challenged, because it keeps her world moving and her mind from getting dull. Also because there are a lot of smart people out there, and Faile enjoys engaging them.
